From the welcome sign at the reception, you'll quickly realize that your visit to Orpailleur Vineyard will include a history lesson on Quebec wine production. Their sign at the door says this is their 33rd year in business. The walls around the reception area are covered with panels in both French and English that tell the history of wine in the region.
Orpailleur Vineyard planted their first vines in 1982 and continue today to expand their varieties and learn from what works in their land and climate. Their adjoining galleries off the tasting room have examples of the early tools and displays to help you understand the unique challenges to the area's vines.

We visited midweek when the tasting room wasn't busy, which allowed us to enjoy our tasting as we walked around the reception area reading the historic time lines of grape production in the Province of Quebec.
There was a lot of activity on the property as they prepared for their busy season that starts in late June and continues through September.

Orpailleur Vineyard is a larger destination and operation, so that means they also host events such as corporate functions and weddings. The Tire-Bouchon restaurant has everything from picnic lunches to three course meals served with fine linens. You can always add in some wine from their estate to complete your meal.

With a 10 wines to select from, you'll be able to find something satisfying to take home and share. Plan on spending at least an hour, or make it a destination for a half day and enjoy lunch or dinner and take your time to explore the grounds. The helpful staff will provide you with lots of information on things to do both here and other destinations on La Route des Vins in Quebec.
"Orpailleur" roughly translates to English as Gold Miner. So don't forget your tire-bouchon (corckscrew) as you enjoy the Eastern Townships of Quebec to open your own "bit of gold".
And even if you're not French, you'll be saying "Bonne journée!" (Have a Good Day) as you travel La Route des Vins in the Province of Quebec.

Have bought their fine wines several times . . it was great to see the "back yard" through your eyes.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bryan! The Eastern Townships area is really beautiful and we enjoyed our time there.
