This past weekend our destination was not a state, but rather the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We touched down in Bolton, Massachusetts at the Nashoba Valley Winery about an hour's drive from downtown Boston.

Nashoba Valley Winery, Tasting Room
Back in the early 1990s, the current owners started to expand the apple orchard with both fruit and grapes. About two thirds of their wine offerings are fruit wines and a third are grape wines. Nashoba Valley Winery has a few Estate wines, and both dry and sweet wine selections.  In the USA, Estate wines are where the fruit is from a particular owned or managed vineyard; the fruit must come from the same American Vinticultural Area (AVA); and the crushing to bottling process must be completed in the same location.

Nashoba Valley currently grows 12 varietals of grapes, including Pinot Noir, Pinot Blush, and Riesling among others. On a perfectly sunny day with white clouds providing shaded moments at just the right time, our group of three enjoyed their bustling tasting room. The vineyard has a very large area for people to picnic or just spread out to enjoy their beverages.  They also are pet friendly and you can find their pet and picnic policies online. This destination is close for many in Massachusetts due to it's location - smack dab in the middle of the Commonwealth.

space for relaxation
Even though the vineyard was full of people, there is plenty of space to spread out on their porch and out to the hillside with picnic tables.  Come hungry -there is a restaurant on site. You'll want to make a reservation at the restaurant - it's very popular.   Additionally, if your friends don't like wine - they also have a brewery on site and hope to open their Beer Garden on Father's Day this year.  It would be a fun way to celebrate your dad either with him or in his memory.

We'll be coming to you again this Saturday with another destination - again not from a State nor a Commonwealth. Where could it be this time?
